The Summer Solstice in June is One Long Alzheimer’s Disease Fundraiser

Schedule a Tour Today!

The month of June has the longest day of the year that’s also the first day of summer and the summer solstice. But did you know it’s also the day that’s the biggest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s disease?

June 21 is known as “The Longest Day” by the Alzheimer’s Association. The association says, “The day with the most light is the day we fight.”

Alzheimer’s takes a staggering toll in the U.S. About 6 million Americans live with the disease, costing the U.S. $321 billion, according to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The need for financial support is obvious. So will you join millions of others in helping raise funds to fight Alzheimer’s?

It’s Time to Get Involved

It’s very likely your life is touched by Alzheimer’s. Someone in your family, a relative or friend, a neighbor or acquaintance. Doing your part to fight the disease is an act of kindness and places you on a team of millions of people joining to fight Alzheimer’s.

The Longest Day is such a great fundraiser because it’s so easy to get involved. It’s held on June 21, the summer solstice. So you have all day to do a fundraiser or give to one, or both.

On June 21, the day’s length in Midlothian is 14 hours, 46 minutes. That’s more than 5 hours of more daylight than the shortest day of the year.

You might be asking how you can get involved. That’s easy to answer. You don’t have to go anywhere or make special plans. You can raise funds in your assisted living community, outside, or online, in person, on a video, or in many other ways. Use your imagination.

Feel free to tap your creative juices for this fundraiser. Your fundraising raises money and awareness for the care, support, and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association, but you can also be helping that person you know who has the disease.

Just Jump In!

The fundraising activities you can try are only limited by your imagination. You can exercise or do a jogathon. Maybe you like to dance or do yoga. Those are options. Playing a game, or card game, doing a puzzle, enjoying your hobby, are also options.

You can paint or draw, throw a part, host an event. Think about things you can do at your assisted living community. Swimming, baking, weights, crocheting or knitting. It’s up to you!

You could teach a class online because you don’t have to be restricted by social distancing. If you like golfing, you could have a putting competition—with yourself or as a challenge. The options for you are endless.

A Donation is Also in Play

Donating to someone else’s fundraiser is also an option and one of the easiest ways to participate in “The Longest Day” fundraiser. You can simply go to the Alzheimer’s Association website and find one—or more—that catches your eye.
